About The Flying Artist

This site is called The Flying Artist because the composer spends most of his time flying around the world as a Global Services member of United Airlines and the Star Aliance. As well as composing music, The Flying Artist also passes the long hours during the flight by sketching for friends and family. Examples of the sketches can be seen in the picture gallery.

The Flying Artist started drawing when he was 4 years old and was always painting, drawing or sketching. This was his main passion until he started playing guitar when he was 13 years old, having wanted to learn since the age of 7 after seeing Hank Marvin and the Shadows on TV. Music had always been an interest for him and since buying his first guitar (Spanish guitar) on holiday in Majorca for 300 pesatas, has always been a keen composer and player.

At first he drove his parents and family crazy by trying to play an out-of-tune guitar with no idea of how to play. So, his father, in desperation, took him to a local music store in his home town of Southend-on-Sea in Essex (UK), to buy a set of pitch pipes and chord book. A neighbour at the time who played in bands himself took pity on him and also showed him some chords and songs.

From that day on he practiced every day after school and within 2 years started his own band with a bunch of friends, which didn’t last long. Although the band came 3rd in a local talent contest playing Crazy on You by Heart, Samba Pa Ti by Santana and If I fell by the Beatles. Following on from which he started another band with his brother and a couple of friends. This band was formed in 1977, which of course was during the disco era and the band enjoyed some success playing locally for weddings, functions and clubs. This band eventually dissolved in 1980 and a new one was formed, which lasted for nearly 20 years (some pictures of this band can be seen in the Gallery).

During this time he had composed several songs but never tried them with the band. Not being a singer, all the songs are instrumentals. Those who have heard him sing rather he hadn’t!

The songs available on this web site are all instrumentals and range from ballads, to Latin, blues and contemporary pieces, with key influences from Santana, Gary Moore, Eric Clapton and the Beatles. The “sound bites” are all around 1.5 mins long and are 128Kbit .MP3 files which shouldn’t take too long to download. If anyone is interested in purchasing copies of the Cds then please go to the
